We are thrilled to share a brief overview of the new Laboratory Director University.

What is Laboratory Director University?

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Division of Clinical Laboratory Improvement and Quality (DCLIQ) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) have partnered to offer Laboratory Director University (LDU). LDU is free and focused eLearning for laboratory directors that serves the critical need of training and education in addressing Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) compliance.

What does LDU offer?

LDU’s learning pathways include continuing education (CE) credits that we anticipate will count toward satisfying the required hours for laboratory director qualifications. The program offers routes to successful competency assessment; reassessment for failed areas; and proficiencies in preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic systems.

The core content includes:

  • Self-paced learning pathways that target specific elements of CLIA regulatory compliance and other laboratory director duties
  • CE credit hours
  • An LDU Capstone project to round out the learning pathways

LDU provides supplemental resources, including:

  • Videos featuring real-world scenarios
  • Exclusive! CDART, LDU's innovative CLIA Deficiency and Resource Tool
    • Search, track, and download CLIA deficiencies
    • Find training and specific regulations throughout Title 42 CFR Part 493

To learn more about LDU, watch our webinar, "Introduction to Laboratory University.

LDU gives laboratory directors the resources they need to enhance training for their staff in crucial areas of CLIA-designated personnel positions, helping develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform optimally in their role(s) in CLIA-certified laboratories.
