Fundamentals of Quality Practices in CLIA Provider-Performed Microscopy Procedures

Description

This basic-level course focuses on CLIA requirements for laboratories and testing sites with a CLIA Certificate for Provider-Performed Microscopy (PPM) Procedures, along with essential quality practices to ensure accurate and reliable test results. By emphasizing quality testing practices, the course promotes the delivery of high-quality testing results, which directly supports patient care and population health.

Audience

This course is intended for physicians, midlevel practitioners including nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, dentists, laboratory directors, and other laboratory professionals who:

• Perform PPM procedures and have general knowledge of CLIA requirements.

  or

• Serve as a laboratory director at a laboratory or testing site that performs PPM procedures.

Objectives

At the end of this course, learners should be able to:

• Identify at least two microscopic examinations a qualified healthcare provider can perform under a CLIA Certificate for PPM procedures.
• List three types of healthcare providers who qualify as testing personnel for PPM under the CLIA Certificate for PPM procedures.
• Recognize their role as a team member performing PPM procedures.
• Identify at least three components of the quality system for PPM procedures.
