Developing S.M.A.R.T. Laboratory Training Learning Objectives
Course Description
S.M.A.R.T. learning objectives are clear statements of the desired knowledge, skills, or abilities (KSAs) learners should attain by the end of a given training or activity. They ensure that the training content and activities align with the results of the training needs assessment. This course guides learners through the application of CDC’s Quality Training Standard #2: Training includes learning objectives. The strategies and practices covered are adaptable across different training types, including eLearning, in-person training, and hands-on approaches such as the “See one, do one, teach one” method.
Audience
This basic-level course is intended for public health and clinical laboratory professionals who develop and deliver laboratory training.

At the end of this course, learners should be able to:
- Describe the S.M.A.R.T. criteria for creating effective learning objectives.
- Select appropriate action verbs based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning domains.
