Assessing Laboratory Learner Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Course Description
Learner assessments measure learners’ knowledge, skills, and progress in relation to the learning objectives. This course guides learners through the application of CDC’s Quality Training Standard #7: Training includes opportunity for learner assessment. The strategies and practices covered are adaptable across different training types, including eLearning, in-person training, and hands-on approaches such as the “See one, do one, teach one” method.
Audience
This basic-level course is intended for public health and clinical laboratory professionals who develop and deliver laboratory training.

Objectives
At the end of this course, learners should be able to:
- Describe at least one difference between summative and formative assessments.
- Recall at least one method for delivering summative assessments and one method for delivering formative assessments.
- Identify two considerations for designing effective learner assessments.
